We are proud to announce that Dante Cantal will take home this year’s Donna H. Myers Barbecue Leadership Award, which will be presented at the HPBExpo 2017 Big Green Egg Cook-off on March 2! Now in its sixth year, the award, sponsored by HPBA and Casual Living, recognizes innovative leaders who have contributed to the growth of their companies and the overall industry.
Dante Cantal, inventor, visionary, and award-winning gas engineer, is the owner and founder of Twin Eagles, Inc., a premium outdoor kitchen equipment manufacturer. Over the last four decades, Dante has dedicated his work to creating the world’s finest culinary cooking equipment.
Dante earned his Mechanical Engineering degree in his native country of the Philippines. After graduating in 1977, Dante began his engineering career designing residential appliances for White Westinghouse and General Electric. During this time, Dante developed a keen understanding of the residential refinements, safety and conveniences that consumers expect from residential cooking equipment.
In 1982, Dante shifted his focus to commercial cooking equipment when he was hired to direct the design team at a leading restaurant equipment company, U.S. Range. Dante designed commercial cooking equipment for major restaurants, hotels and casinos. This experience would solidify Dante’s understanding of what a restaurant chef expects in the way of performance and the importance of the cooking equipment’s reliability.
Dante’s expert knowledge of residential appliances and high-performance, commercial cooking equipment set the stage for his transition to premium grills and outdoor kitchen equipment. Then, in 1996, he co-founded one of the first outdoor kitchen equipment companies – Lynx Professionals Grills.
In the late 1990’s the premium grill and outdoor kitchen category were growing rapidly. Dante saw an opportunity to use his creativity and engineering expertise to design grills and outdoor kitchen equipment for several major brands including Dynasty, Maytag, Jenn-Air, Cal Flame, Ducane Meridian and Wolf to name a few.
In 2006, Dante set out to create his own signature brand and introduced the Twin Eagles line of grills and outdoor kitchen equipment. Twin Eagles would prove to be a true culmination of Dante’s past experiences.
Today, Twin Eagles is a trend-setter in the premium grill and outdoor kitchen equipment category. Over the course of his career, Dante’s dedication to innovation and the engineering trade have earned him several awards including his 1995 induction as a Fellow to the Institute for the Advancement of Engineering. Dante was also the recipient of the Art Theobald Award in 2000, the highest honor given by American Society of Gas Engineers (ASGE) to a member.
As a Certified Gas Engineer, Dante served as President of the ASGE West Coast Chapter from 1993-1994, as the President of the ASGE National Office from 2007-2009, and is a lifetime member of ASGE.
Dante has also secured numerous patents, trademarks and is responsible for many “industry first” innovations.
In addition to his accolades as an entrepreneur and engineer, Dante supports small business groups such as the Filipino American Chamber of Commerce of Orange County (FACCOC) and the Asian Business Association of Orange County (ABAOC) where he has received numerous awards. He is a lifetime member of OC Filipino American Association, a non-profit organization. Dante also gives back to his high school and college alma maters, and has provided financial support to deserving students in these schools to excel in their chosen careers as he did.
